Reading Ac Summer Course for Young Athletes
Athletics!!

Reading Athletic club was delighted
to have over 30 children participate in its 'Fundamentals of athletics' summer course for kids aged 7-11 held
from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th August at Palmer Park Stadium, Reading These budding young athletes and perhaps one day Olympians undertook a variety of enjoyable activites in running,
throwing, jumping. Within these events the kids worked on their agility, balance, coordination, teamwork and communication.
A great time was had by all of them and by
the end of the course even the coaches: Rob McKim, John Bayley, Geoff Biscoe, Tim Richardson and Keith Whyte were all
looking much fitter!
Club coach and one
of the organisers, Rob McKim said "We thought it was time that the club organised a summer programme as part
of its community outreach and run up to London 2012" We were overwhelmed by the response. As coaches we were able
to say that the Olympic dream could be a reality as Reading AC had produced an Olympic Champion in Ann Packer. She won a gold
medal in the 800 metres at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and broke the world record at the same time too! We have also produced several other Olympic medalists, Olympians and UK internationalists
galore. However no matter the talent, our club is welcoming to all those who wish to see where their talents and drive
can take them in our sport and have a fantastic time along the way We hope to see many of these children join the club feeling inspired about what the club can offer
