Womens Southern League
Reading currently compete in the Premier Division of the Womens Southern League, the top division in
the league and they are now firmly established as one of the strongest club's in this league, having finished 5th
in 2006 and 3rd in 2005. 16 team's compete in the league, over five matches, meaning you face each club just
once. The bottom 4 club's are relegated. This League is open to all age group's, but only 2 age group's are
contested, U15 and Senior. In the U15 age group, U13 may also be used, however this is extremly rare for the club to do this.
In the Senior age group, you can also use U17 and U20 athlete's, There are 2 event's specifically in the
programme for U17 athlete's, these are the 300m Hurdles, and the 80m Hurdles.
Reading's 3rd place finish in 2005 equalled their highest ever league finish, which was last achieved when Brian Bacon
was Team manager, with his very strong team from the 70's. This League is still regarded as very important, as it still
provides some very good competition and gives valuable experience to younger athlete's in Senior competiton.
Since then, the Division's were re-named for a modern new look and the old Division One became the Premier
Division and in 2008 and 2009 Reading secured the runner's up spot on both occasions.
